Whatever your preference, the truth is this: cocktails can completely reorient your mood and add some joy to the mundane.

After a hard day, week, month, or even year… we all are deserving of the chance to indulge in a deliciously crafted cocktail or two to unwind. Even better if this cocktail is known to be one of the most popular cocktails mixed at Beaches all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and can be made right at home!

In this post we’ll be placing the top five Beaches Resorts cocktails in the spotlight and share how to make them so you can bring a little bit of the Caribbean into your home this summer.

Beaches Resorts’ 5 most popular cocktails

For the purposes of this article we sought out the recipes for some of the most popular cocktails at Beaches all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica and Turks & Caicos.

These include the Dirty Banana, Frozen Bob Marley, Miami Vice, Hummingbird and Purple Rain, all of which were voted the best cocktails by our guests on World Cocktail Day.

Tip: Turn these cocktails into mocktails by leaving out the liquor!

1. Dirty Banana

Favorite cocktail of Beaches Negril guests.

Sweet and classic, the Dirty Banana is one of those cocktails that is almost synonymous with the Caribbean. Sipping on this thick and delicious cocktail made with banana and other tropical ingredients will certainly set the tone for a blissful island experience.

What you’ll need:

• 1.0 oz. Dark Rum
• 1.0 oz. Crème de Cacao Dark
• 3.0 oz. Milk
• 0.5 oz. Simple Syrup
• 1 Banana
  

How to make it:

1. In a blender add ice and all other ingredients. Blend until smooth (about 30 seconds).
2. Pour into a cocktail glass and garnish with a pineapple wedge.
   
   
   

2. Frozen Bob Marley

Favorite cocktail of Beaches Ocho Rios guests.

If you haven’t had this cocktail before it can be hard to decipher what sort of flavour to expect. Dive in anyway with some groovy Bob Marley tunes in mind and you’ll be able to ride the waves of this layered and fruity cocktail in expert form.

What you’ll need:

• 2.0 oz. Strawberry Daiquiri Mix
• 2.0 oz. Mango Daiquiri Mix
• 2.0 oz. Appleton Gold Rum
• 1.0 oz. Blue Curaçao Liqueur
  

How to make it:

1. Set up your blender and start this cocktail mix by throwing in some ice and the strawberry daiquiri mix. Blend until the ingredients are slushy. Pour or scoop out the mixture into a glass to make the first layer of your cocktail.
2. Repeat the blending process with the mango daiquiri and ice. Once these ingredients are slushy, add half of the mango mixture to your glass for your second cocktail layer. Do not stir.
3. For your third layer add Blue Curaçao to the remaining mango mixture in the blender. Expect your mixture to turn green. Once this happens add the mixture to your glass. Do not stir.
4. You can add more rum on top of your layers if you wish as a float. Add to taste.
5. Use fresh fruit as garnish and serve.
   
   
   

3. Miami Vice

Favorite cocktail of Beaches Turks & Caicos guests.

What you’ll need:

• 1.5 oz. Appleton White Rum
• 2.0 oz. Strawberry Daiquiri Mix
• 0.5 oz. Lime Juice
• 1.5 oz. Dark Rum
• 2.0 oz. Piña Colada Mix
• 0.5 oz. Pineapple Juice
  

How to make it:

1. Set up your blender and gather all your ingredients along with some ice. Blend the strawberry daiquiri mix with the Appleton white rum, lime juice and ice until mixture is slushy. Set mixture aside in a mixing glass.
2. Blend the Piña Colada mix with the dark rum, pineapple juice and ice until mixture is slushy.
3. Pour both mixtures in one cocktail glass. Do not stir.
4. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and serve.
   
   
   

4. Hummingbird

Hummingbirds are both beautiful and fast moving so it can be hard to get a picture of them to capture the moment when you’re lucky enough to spot one. Fortunately, the same can’t be said for the popular hummingbird cocktail that goes down best when you really take the time to relax and enjoy it. Here’s how to make this flavourful cocktail:

What you’ll need:

• 1.5 oz. Appleton Special
• 1.5 oz. Rum Cream
• 0.5 oz. Crème de Cacao Dark
• 0.5 oz. Grenadine
• 1 Banana
  

How to make it:

1. The hummingbird cocktail isn’t extravagant, and the method is refreshingly straightforward. All you’ll need to do is put some ice and the ingredients into the blender and mix until smooth (about 30 seconds).
2. Pour your mixture into a highball glass, garnish with a cherry, and serve.
   
   
   

5. Purple Rain

Prince’s song ‘Purple Rain’ is the first thing that comes to mind once this cocktail pops up on the menu. From the account of Beaches guests, this cocktail is just as smooth, delectable, and almost as soul stirring as the musical thread by the same name. The good news? You don’t have to wait until your Beaches vacation to try it out for yourself!

What you’ll need:

• 1.5 oz. Appleton Estate V/X
• 1 splash Blue Curaçao Liqueur
• 1 splash Sweet and Sour Mix
• 1 splash Soda Water
• 1 oz. Cranberry Juice
  

How to make it:

1. The first step to making this cocktail is probably putting on some music (preferably Prince) to help you get into a more mellow mood. After that you’ll just need to pour some gin into a highball glass with ice and top it up with cranberry juice.
2. Add Blue Curaçao, sweet and sour mix and soda.
3. Mix your ingredients with a little shake, add some more Blue Curaçao until your drink has a royal purple hue, then serve.

Blender

A blender is a common household appliance that is also used very often in the world of bartending. There are different grades of blenders depending on the use, and if you’re really serious about making home cocktails a thing, you can invest in a high-end one that’s good for frozen drinks and smoothies. A regular blender should do the trick as well.

Jigger

Cocktail jiggers are the equivalent of measuring cups for bartenders. You can get them in a range of sizes from 0.5 - 2.5 oz. Jiggers are used to measure shots or cocktails. While searching for cocktail recipes you might see the word jigger used as a unit of measurement in some places, and now you’ll know what it means!

Cocktail shaker

A cocktail shaker is one of the most commonly used tools by bartenders. This tool makes preparing certain cocktails a whole lot easier in terms of mixing. Also, ice can be added to quickly cool drinks that need to be served right away.

Hand juicer

Many bartenders use hand juicers to extract juice from citrus fruits. This tool can also be used for vegetables. Lime, lemon, orange, and tomato are common food items that can be juiced with this item, and it is worth investing in a good one as this can really save some time when making cocktails.

Mixing glass

A mixing glass is a bartender essential, and it is most commonly used with a bar spoon and strainer in the cocktail preparation process. With these tools professional and even amateur bartenders can stir and strain their drinks and also cool drinks with little dilution.

Bar spoon

A bar spoon is often used for mixing and layering drinks. This spoon is typically long-handled and can be used for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The length of this tool comes in handy particularly to get to the bottom of tall jugs and tumblers for ease of mixing.

Chinois

A chinois is a useful tool that can be used for straining. It is a conical shape and has very fine mesh. There are different types of chinoises, and they are often used by chefs, home cooks, and even bartenders. This tool is great for creating super smooth cocktails.

Ice cube tray

If you want to get an ice cube tray or two to add to your home bartending kit, it won’t hurt to get a personalized one. This adds some fun to simply adding ice into shakers or directly into your drink. There are lots of different sizes and molds when it comes to ice trays but keeping it simple also works.

Muddler

A muddler is similar to a pestle and can be used to crush or grind fruits, herbs and spices in the bottom of a glass while making a cocktail. This method is used to enhance the flavour of the drink with key ingredients.

Highball glass

A highball glass is a tall tumbler commonly used to serve cocktails. This glass can hold 8 to 12 fl. oz. and it is comparable to a Collins glass though the highball glass is slightly shorter and wider than a Collins.
