Some of Russia's finest samovars (teapots) were created in Tula, and there is a collection on view in the Samovar Museum near the Kremlin (http://www.tula-samovar.com.ru/museum.html). The city's most famous draw, however, is nearby Yasnaya Polyana (http://www.yasnayapolyana.ru), the country estate of author Leo Tolstoy. While there, visit his home, museum and (unmarked) gravesite. Also try some Tulsky pryanik (gingerbread), a traditional Russian cookie.

Overview
Introduction
A pleasant day trip from Mexico City (45 mi/70 km to the north), Tula is small site of ruins that were once the capital of the Toltec empire (AD 900-1150) with several temples topped by giant stone carvings of stern-faced warriors. They form a terrifying spectacle, and it is easy to see why the Aztecs destroyed the ruins. There's a small ball court and restored temple on the site.
