The smallest town in New Hampshire, New Castle is composed of one large island and several smaller islands, and serves as a scenic residential and recreational community. The town is served by eight full-time and two part-time employees, aided by volunteer boards and fire department personnel. New Castle houses a U.S. Coast Guard Station at the mouth of the Piscataqua River, Forts Constituton and Stark which are Historic Sites under the direction of the NH Department of Resources and Economic Development. Also in the SW part of town, are the state owned Leach's and Clampit Islands. These five properties combine for a total of 65 acres. The Town-owned Great Island Common, a 31 acre ocean side park, is the Town's recreational centerpiece. The Common is open to residents without charge and to non-residents for a small fee. The Common is ideal for outdoor sports activities, picnicking, family gatherings, and swimming. Ample swings and other playground equipment for youngsters are available. Adjacent to Great Island Common is New Castle Beach.

New Castle
Overview
Introduction
This original state capital, about 7 mi/11 km south of Wilmington, is a major colonial seaport on the Delaware River. New Castle's biggest attraction is its authenticity. The town remains similar to the way it appeared in the 18th and 19th centuries with original brick houses and public buildings, cobblestoned streets and a central square known as The Green.
Among the sites open to the public are the New Castle Court House Museum (built in 1732, one of the oldest surviving courthouses in the U.S.) and the Federal-style Read House and Gardens, built in 1801 by the son of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Amstel House and Dutch House are fine examples of Georgian and Dutch colonial architecture.
The New Castle Court House provides a free leaflet with directions for self-guided walking tours. "A Day in Old New Castle," conducted annually in May, offers visitors a chance to tour the town's historic private homes, gardens and museums.
