2. It is the most bio-diverse country in the world with over 900,000 species of wildlife, 900 of them are birds. You're likely to catch a sighting in natural habitats, national parks, and volcanic areas.
3. Costa Rica's national anthem is played on every radio station daily at 7am.
4. It's the hummingbird capital of the world! There are over 50 species that call Costa Rica home.
5. Costa Rica is Spanish and translates to “rich coast.” Why? It's said that the country's founder, Christopher Columbus, believed the area was filled with precious metals.
Some of the top activities Costa Rica has to offer...
You want to visit Costa Rica! Awesome, we can help get you there. But one of the questions we’ll ask in helping you do so is what you’d like to see and do there. Relax? Explore nature? Seek adventure? All the above and more? Probably. There is just so much available, we’ll need to have a serious discussion on what your priorities are. To help we’ve put together a list of eight of the best activities to do during your visit. After reading let us know what’s on the top of yours!
8 Great Activities Costa Rica Has To Offer
1. Hiking – An activity that likely is top of mind when you think of Costa Rica and there certainly is no shortage of places to do so. Volcanoes, beaches, cloud forests – the choice is yours. Once that’s settled, think about the level of difficulty you’re comfortable with. These two things will help in the best recommendation. Additionally, it is suggested you consider guided hikes. Your expert leader will be able to provide general assistance and a trained eye to spot wildlife.
2. Surfing – Surfers from around the world frequent Costa Rica year-round because of its warm waters and waves. Choose your coast – Pacific or Caribbean, select your level of experience – beginner, intermediate, or advanced. We can even make some recommendations. If you’re in need of a lesson, they’re typically easy to find, even just by stepping foot on some beaches!
3. Snorkeling and Scuba – Wildlife sightings aren’t limited to land. There are 7,000+ marine species that can be found in Costa Rica’s surrounding waters. So, it is no surprise that it is on the top of the list for water activities. If you’re a snorkeler, think about if you’d like to do so by boat or shore. If a diver, we can help recommend dive sites. Just let us know your level of experience.
4. Whitewater Rafting – Costa Rica provides a stunning background for this adventure. There are a few areas that would be recommended if this is something you’d like to do. Beginner or advanced, let us know what intensity of rapids you’re comfortable with, and we can point you in the right direction. If the kiddos are up for the challenge, there are some options that are suitable for them too. It’s a great family activity!
5. Visit Waterfalls – Some of the most picturesque sights in Costa Rica can be found at its numerous waterfalls. After all, there’s something so magical about water cascading over a cliff to the pools below. There are plenty of options to choose from, just keep in mind a few things. Some falls will require a hike to access, entrance fees will vary, and some allow swimming while others do not. Also consider a guided tour if you won’t have access to a rental car during your stay.
6. Zip Lining – If you’ve Googled “excursions in Costa Rica” you’ve likely seen a picture of someone effortlessly flying over green canopy, rivers, and cliffs. It’s a very popular activity that can be found all over the country. You should expect a safety demo and a short hike. Then you’ll glide line by line, each getting a little longer than the one before. If you’re an adrenaline seeker this is a must do! If not, we wouldn’t recommend it. Do not invest money in something if you’re not 100% comfortable with.
7. Bird Watching – It isn’t unusual for people to travel to Costa Rica for this very reason. Some enthusiasts even build a whole itinerary around this activity. There is 900+ species and most often seen will likely be toucans, macaws, and hummingbirds. Because the country is so eco-diverse, make a couple of watching stops. Don’t forget your binoculars and camera!
8. Yoga – Yes, you read that right! Costa Rica is indeed a haven for yoga lovers. You could see or take a class quite literally anywhere – a resort, beach, volcano, or rainforest. If you’re a beginner, give it a try at least once. If you’re a wellness enthusiast and it’s your reason for travel, it belongs on your list. Think wellness retreat, group trip for your studio, location for instructor training or continuing education.
There you have it, some of the best that Costa Rica has to offer! Of course, there’s a ton more that isn’t listed, so if you have any questions let us know. If you’re ready to explore all that Costa Rica has to offer, please feel free to reach out!

Iberostar Tucan - Riviera Maya
Multi-generation family vacation before Christmas 2023
We had a great experience and would highly recommend Iberostar Tucan. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean a comfortable. Pool and beach were both well stocked with seating so there was none of that “reserving your seats at dawn or there will be no where to sit”. The food was good and could be great depending on your individual preferences. Personally, I really enjoyed the Japanese Hibachi grill experience and the smokehouse BBQ was excellent. My oldest son thought the Smokehouse pulled pork was the best he’d ever had. Tiffany loved the Crème Brûlée at the Mediterranean restaurant, my 16 year old son thought the pizza crust at the Italian restaurant was the best. Buildings 14 and 15 have the best views, facing the interior jungle. There is an abundance of wildlife in the “jungle”. We were greeted each morning by acrobatic monkeys swinging through the canopy right outside our balcony. Peacocks and Lemurs are a common sight throughout the resort. There was even a big iguana living beneath the patio of our building (14) that greeted us each day basking in the sun. Transportation via Amstar both to and from the resort was great. Vehicles were in excellent shape, clean, comfortable and professional driven. We arrange an outing to Tulum via Amstar and our guide spoke both English and German to accommodate some of the German guest joining us on our trip to Tulum. Overall the resort was in great shape. I saw no indications of any deferred maintenance or lack of attention to the buildings or grounds. As mentioned previously, the staff were super friendly and helpful. We were always greeted with a smile and a “how can we help” attitude. We will definitely return someday. -Steve W.

Jamaican Honeymoon
My husband and I worked with Anne for our honeymoon to Jamaica and she was FANTASTIC! She was so easy to work with and SO knowledgeable on every question we asked. She took care of everything for all of our travels which made it so easy for us. We had never been out of the country before so we were a bit nervous and she made everything so seamless and easy. We will 100% go through her for all of our travels in the future! -Mallory C.
Antarctica Cruise
My family and I went on an cruise that Anne set up for us. From the plane tickets, transport from airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the port terminal, the cruise itself and the trip home. Everything went smooth for us. I wasn't sure on a couple of things, but I shouldn't of because we had no problems at all. We enjoyed our trip and time together because it was all taken care of. Just too many things to take care, so it was great that it was all handled for us. We will use Anne again. -Oldguy
Hilton Hawaiian Village - Oahu
5-stars!!! Every detail of our family vacation to Hawaii was a total success because of Anne! As a type-A traveler who takes relaxation very seriously, I would recommend Anne for anyone looking to get the most out of their vacation dollar. To start, Anne met with me to discuss my travel goals and 'must have's'. She then provide thorough options for varying price points that were ideal for our objectives. There was no pressure and she was always available for questions. I even had a last minute request that she was flexible in accommodating. We had a seamless airport transfer and even got upgraded once we got to the hotel, when I mentioned Anne and Vincent Travel! We ended up with the best room in the hotel. What I was most impressed with was the availability, time, and dedication Anne had to ensure our trip was completely worry-free. At one point, there was a miscommunication with a tour company and Anne immediately started working tirelessly to get it resolved in my favor. Although it may not always be the case, we were able to receive a $1K refund due to her efforts. All while me and my family never skipped a beat enjoying our dream island vacation. I will be contacting Anne for all my future travel and would recommend her for anyone who is looking to make the most of their travels!

NYC for Christmas
Anne made the booking process seamless, we communicated our expectations and she more than delivered, and we’re not talking pizza! The travel app she provided with our schedule of events during our trip was super helpful and convenient as well. So don’t pull out your hair, when Anne can be there!

Jamaican Getaway
Our vacations was really really good. Was a blast every day--something different on a regular. We did the free excursions. It was super awesome overall. Thank you so much for helping us out. We will definitely get with you on our next trip out for Ocho Rios.
Why use a travel advisor when traveling during hurricane season?
I am currently sitting on my hotel room in Clearwater, Florida. We were supposed to be in Jamaica right now, but Hurricane Beryl is headed for a direct hit. So...we changed our plans. (The biggest red island in the picture is Jamaica--currently under a hurricane warning.)
But that's not the point of this post.
I have clients in Cancun right now. (See the pink line on the map, which is currently a hurricane watch for The Yucatan.) They arrived on Sunday and have been having a fabulous time as a family. They are supposed to leave for home on Friday...the same day Hurricane Beryl is supposed to hit the Cancun area.
My clients were wise and purchased travel insurance. If they do face cancellations or long delays, their additional expenses will be reimbursed. Knowing that is helping them to be proactive.
As the storm's path has been developing, I've been watching. This morning, while they are enjoying their vacation, I booked them new flights home on Saturday. They now have a guaranteed way home if things get dicey on Friday and their original flights get canceled. Flights are always the hardest part in situations like these. We will get them an extra night at the hotel when we know more.
If they are able to leave as scheduled, they will have flight credit to use on future travel. If they get stuck, they have flights home and won't have to wait in endlessly long lines at the Cancun airport.
All this done while they enjoy a snorkel trip as a family. They aren't scrambling trying to figure things out. I'm sure there is some stress regarding the unknown, but for now, they are OK.
This is what I do as your travel advisor. Even when I'm on vacation myself!
Lessons from this experience?
1. Hire a travel advisor to help you with your vacations!
2. Buy travel insurance--especially during Hurricane Season!
Jamaica!! It's a place where the sun dances on the turquoise waves, where the air is filled with the rhythm of reggae, and every moment feels like paradise!
I absolutely love this gem of the Caribbean and think everyone should vacation here at least once in their lives.
Here are a few reasons why
The Beaches: There are so many picture-perfect stretches of powdery sand, swaying palm trees, and sunsets like no other. Whether you're lounging in the shade of a thatched-roof cabana, snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters, or simply strolling along the shoreline, Jamaica's beaches are a slice of paradise. My favorite is 7-mile beach in Negril.
The People: From the moment you step off the plane, you're greeted with smiles as warm as the Jamaican sun. The service here is more than just friendly; it's genuine, heartfelt, and always delivered with a side of Jamaican charm. Whether you're chatting with a local vendor at the market, being served a fruity drink on the beach at your resort, or being serenaded by a street musician, you can't help but feel the joy and positivity in every interaction.
The Food: Jamaica is a culinary delight, with flavors and influences that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you craving more. From the fiery heat of jerk chicken to the comforting embrace of a Jamaican meat patty, every dish tells a story of tradition, history, and passion. And the best part? You'll find these mouthwatering delights everywhere you go--from roadside shacks, to the all-inclusive resorts, and at any of the amazing five-star restaurants overlooking the ocean.
The Convenience: Getting to Jamaica from DFW couldn't be easier. There are regular flights, many non-stop, between Dallas Airports (DFW or DAL) and the MBJ International Airport. Whether you're planning a quick weekend getaway or a longer escape, you'll find that Jamaica is an easy flight away. The convenience makes it the perfect destination for spontaneous adventures, indulgent honeymoons, destination weddings, anniversary trips and more.
The Safety: While no one can guarantee a trouble-free vacation, tourist safety is a top priority here. Tourism is the countries largest industry, and therefore they have many dedicated efforts to ensure that visitors feel secure and well-cared for throughout their stay. Jamaica goes above and beyond to see that your vacation is worry-free and filled with nothing but the best memories. It is essential for travelers to exercise typical caution and be mindful of their surroundings. Keep with reputable guided tours, avoid sketchy areas (especially at night), and enjoy the many amenities offered at your resort.
Jamaica stole my heart from the first moment I arrived, and it continues to be one of my favorite destinations. From its breathtaking beaches and friendly service, to its mouthwatering cuisine and ease of travel, Jamaica is a destination like no other. It's a place where every moment feels like a dream and every day is a celebration of life, love, and the beauty of the Caribbean.
Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya is the perfect option for a weekend getaway or short-stay vacation. Located only 15 minutes from Cancun Airport, it is easy to get to and you can be at the pool by afternoon on your day of arrival. Resort highlights: • Adults only • All-inclusive • New resort, opened June 1, 2023 • On-site brewery • Large pool • Daytime and nighttime activities on site
The room: I stayed at this hotel in March 2024 in a King Paradise Room. The room was spacious with bright and fresh décor and furnishings. There is plenty of space to stretch out and ample storage. There is a large walk-in shower and great lighting in the bathroom. I really appreciated the newness of the resort—everything was clean and fresh.
The Minibar: You’ll find a unique mini-bar setup with a lime juicer, margarita glasses, and a cocktail shaker in your room. Don’t let the empty fridge throw you! Based on your room category and the number of nights of your stay, you will receive points to use in Joe Merchant’s Coffee & Provisions. You’ll shop for your soda, snacks, beer & liquors like you do in a convenience store. This gives you the ability to completely customize your room’s minibar. It’s a bit confusing in the beginning, but makes sense when you work through the process.
The Pools: there are 4 pools on the property. The highlight is the main pool with the 5 O’Clock Somewhere Swim-up Bar. This is where you’ll find the foam parties, DJ’s, and games. Other pools are more quiet. There was plenty of pool chairs and cabanas. You won’t want to miss the famous floating avocado boat (additional charge) where you can munch on tacos, chips, salsas and guacamole while you are in the pool.
The Food: Everything I ate at the 3 a la carte and 1 food display restaurants was delicious! The food display is a spin on buffet dining where they keep the selections fresh by presenting smaller serving dishes in each area. There are plenty of choices, including a gluten-free bakery section. Every a la carte meal was fantastic with a steakhouse, an Italian restaurant, and a grill and brewery. Service was top-notch everywhere. The only downside in dining that I experienced was room service. You order on the app, and delivery was right on time—amazing!! However, my choices left a lot to be desired, and I would have been better off going to buffet (food display).
The Beach: Don’t be surprised…there is none. The waves come right up to the edge of the property. There is no room for beach chairs. At the time I was there, we weren’t even allowed to step on the sand. The water close to the property isn’t the prettiest. If you are a “pool person” and putting your toes in the sand isn’t a requirement for a fabulous vacation, you can still enjoy the beautiful views of the ocean—especially at sunrise in the morning and twilight in the evening.
Overall recommendation: I would highly recommend this property to a couple looking for a weekend getaway or a girl’s trip looking for lively pool activities and fun evening entertainment. Four nights would be plenty. More than that, and you may get bored. I was there during the week, and it was fairly quiet. As we were leaving on a Friday, the crowd and atmosphere was definitely getting more lively. If a beautiful beach and pristine clear ocean are a must, this isn’t the resort for you.
