The Galloping Goose ski run on your doorstep offers deep powder and plenty of challenges for all levels of skiers. During the summer, this region of the Rockies becomes an adventure playground for hiking, mountain biking, and a wide range of activities such as golf and rock climbing. At its heart is the historic town of Telluride, a heritage mining town with its roots buried in the deep silver mines of the mountains. Today, its bustling streets are alive with gourmet restaurants, welcoming bars and boutique stores. A town with a strong community spirit, you’ll be made to feel welcome here from the moment you arrive.
Pennington Place puts those spectacular mountain views at the heart of its décor. The whimsical accents and bespoke furnishings complement rather than compete with Nature’s contribution to the interior/exterior experience. The living room is warm and comfortable, flowing effortlessly into the high-end kitchen and dining area that’s accented by exposed wooden beams and an unusual hob cover against a verdigris tiled splashback.
Three tranquil king-size bedrooms with ensuites and a further bunk room with two captain’s bunks and space for up to six younger guests make this a family-friendly chalet with plenty of variable sleeping arrangements. The soothing colours and rest-inducing interiors are enhanced by the extraordinary mountain views – a breathtaking scene to wake up to in the mornings.
A wealth of amenities make Pennington Place a refined choice, including a state-of-the-art private spa and sauna and a theatre room with a huge wrap-around couch and large-screen TV. Located in Colorado's southwestern corner about 200 mi/320 km southwest of Denver, the ski resort of Telluride was for years relatively inaccessible and undiscovered. But then the airport (the second highest in the nation) was built in the late 1980s. Even though its popularity has skyrocketed, Telluride has a slightly funkier, more authentic feel to it than some of the more antiseptic upscale resorts. It offers a mix of cowboy chic and movie-star glamour. Among the celebrities who have owned houses there at one time or another are Oprah Winfrey, Ralph Lauren, Christie Brinkley and Oliver Stone. Despite the glam factor, locals are proud of their laid-back, jeans-wearing style. Telluride is also the kind of place where ski instructors and tour guides are likely to be renegade physicists or corporate lawyers who went there to ski and never left.
The town of Telluride, located at the end of a highway in a magnificent box canyon, has so far retained its small-town charm, including Victorian architecture and quaint bed-and-breakfasts. It also offers full-service lodging, boutiques, restaurants and apres-ski amenities. The Peaks Resort and Spa is one of the top spas in the U.S.
Some of the nonski attractions in Telluride include a downtown historic district where restored buildings have been converted into shops and restaurants. Bridal Veil Falls, the longest in Colorado, is absolutely gorgeous.
A free gondola system provides a scenic way to get between Telluride and its newer, European-styled sister city, Mountain Village.
