An Applied Physicist by profession, Dr John Mason is currently the Principal Lecturer at the South Downs Planetarium in Chichester. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society since 1976, and is a full member of the International Astronomical Union. He has appeared many times with Sir Patrick Moore on BBC TV's 'The Sky at Night.'

Dr Sadie Jones is the Astronomy Public Engagement Leader at the University of Southampton. In January 2020, she assisted members of the Space Environment Physics group on an expedition to Svalbard, Norway to observe the aurora and collect research data. She also runs talks and school workshops on aurora research to promote ‘The Aurora Zoo’, a citizen science platform where the public analyze short videos of aurora displays.

Having previously worked at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, he is the founder of Stargazing?London, which delivers world-class online astronomy courses. Tom has authored numerous best-selling astronomy books for adults and children, including Northern Lights: The Definitive Guide to Auroras, which offers a complete introduction to nature's most magical sky-illuminating phenomenon.
Dr Darren Baskill

Dr Darren Baskill has over 25 years’ experience of organising and delivering public science events. He is a lecturer and outreach officer for the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Sussex, and typically runs 100 outreach events each year for schools, colleges, and the public. He previously worked at the Royal Observatory Greenwich science centre and planetarium in London, where he initiated the highly successful Astronomy Photographer of the Year public competition and exhibition, and he was a calibration scientist for the European XMM-Newton space telescope at the University of Leicester before that. Darren is also a director of Ensonglopedia, a musical theatre company based in Lewes.

Norway’s culinary traditions has much in common with the scenery of the coastline. It is always fresh, distinctive and full of variety. We have always strived to give our guests a truly unique and authentic experience, and local produce and authentic food traditions are incorporated into every element of the culinary experience on board. Visiting 34 ports, Hurtigruten has an exceptional opportunity to get fresh produce from local suppliers every day. This means delicious new and fresh ingredients, both from the coastal and inland areas.
Real food experiences
To enhance this unique concept, you will have food experiences not only in the restaurants, but also through storytelling. As part of our ‘Autumn Gold’ concept, we serve cloudberries out on deck. An woman in Finnmark has handpicked these berries and she delivers them to our ships. Experiences with Hurtigruten don’t get more authentic than this.
A menu that changes with the seasons and areas in which we sail
Based on the season’s freshest ingredients, our chefs create either three-course dinners or lavish buffets. Being a coastal voyage, seafood often dominates the menu, accompanied by fresh vegetables and delicately-flavored sauces. Each dinner ends with traditional desserts, like homemade cakes, puddings, berries or sorbet. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style. To accompany each meal you can choose from our comprehensive selection of red and white wines, beer, aquavit and soft drinks. Afterwards, you can enjoy fresh coffee in any of the lounges or drinks in one of the bars while taking in the picturesque landscape.
Each of our twelve coastal ships has its own style, adding a special personality to your home away from home. All provide the same intimate travel experience, with their own informal Hurtigruten atmosphere.

All of our ships have comfortable lounges, with panoramic views, a library and 24-hour cafe. A few even have Jacuzzis and a fitness room.
All of our 12 ships have a wide range of comfortable cabins. No matter which cabin you travel in, we can promise you a comfortable journey with a relaxed atmosphere. Our ships include panoramic lounges and ample deck space affording perfect views as you glide through some of the world’s most beautiful and untouched coastal scenery.
They all have a small library where you can immerse yourself in a good book, and a cafe serving snacks and drinks 24 hours a day.
As you board a Hurtigruten ship, you will be taking part in a long tradition of transporting people and cargo. Hurtigruten ships are working vessels operating a regular service to a set timetable.
