Ship Cove is on the west shore of Queen Charlotte Sound in New Zealand, and is named after the British Captain Cook who explored New Zealand's coastline in the 18th Century. Visitors usually come here to walk Captain Cook Trail. Many side tracks lead off the Captain Cook Trail, including a short walk to a private beach, a track through regenerating kohekohe forest to Mussel Point (where mussels are abundant on the rocks), and tracks to historic gold mines. The walk takes two days, but nature enthusiasts will think the trip well worth it.
