1. Experience an Authentic Luau
No visit to Oahu is complete without attending a traditional Hawaiian luau. It's a cultural immersion that combines delicious local cuisine, mesmerizing hula dances, and the soul-stirring sounds of live music. The Old Lahaina Luau and Polynesian Cultural Center Luau are two renowned options that promise an unforgettable evening. Although, these are very popular you can experience other amazing Luau's such as Germaine's and Toa Luau. Some resorts even have Luau's on property. Make sure to check with your resort to see if they offer this before purchasing tickets at another Luau.2. Embrace the Gypsy and Shaka Apps
Make your Oahu adventure seamless with the Gypsy and Shaka apps. Gypsy provides insightful audio tours, giving you an in-depth understanding of the island's history and landmarks. Meanwhile, the Shaka app is a virtual guidebook that offers valuable tips on where to eat, what to see, and how to navigate the island like a pro. To use just open your app and start driving. The app will share history, tell you where to stop, and even play local Hawaiian music as you drive and enjoy Hawaii's breathtaking scenery.3. Indulge in Malasadas at Leonard's Bakery
Start your day the Hawaiian way with a visit to Leonard's Bakery. Treat yourself to a box of their famous Malasadas—Portuguese donuts dusted with sugar. They're an island favorite and an absolute must-try! There are several locations on the island, so just visit one as you start your Hawaiian Adventure. Plus, go EARLY while they are fresh and piping hot.4. Conquer Diamond Head
For panoramic views of Oahu, embark on a hike up Diamond Head. The trail leads you through a volcanic crater and rewards you with breathtaking vistas of Waikiki and the Pacific Ocean. It's a moderately challenging hike, but the experience is well worth the effort. If you plan to add this to your itinerary, make sure to make reservations in advance online. I would pick the earliest time, so you can enjoy the hike before it gets too hot and crowded.5. Relax on Lanikai Beach
Known for its powder-soft sands and crystal-clear waters, Lanikai Beach is a tropical paradise. Rent a kayak and paddle to the nearby Mokulua Islands, or simply bask in the sun while gazing at the turquoise horizon. It's a slice of heaven on earth and was our favorite beach on the Island.6. Explore Kualoa Ranch
Famous for its lush landscapes and cinematic history (remember Jurassic Park?), Kualoa Ranch offers a plethora of activities. Choose from ATV tours, horseback riding, or a movie set tour. The scenery is spectacular, making it a favorite among nature enthusiasts. We did the 2 hour UTV Raptor Tour and HIGHLY recommend it! Be prepared to get DIRTY, though. They will provide face masks, helmets and goggles. ADVICE: DON'T wear clothes you don't want stained with dirt. Other movies that were filmed here are: 50 First Dates, LOST tv series, King Kong, and Jumanji.7. Stroll Through Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens
Escape into nature at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens, a haven of tranquility and lush beauty. Meander through a diverse range of plant collections and take in the serene landscapes. It's a perfect spot for a leisurely picnic or a contemplative walk. The BEST part is, it is FREE! Just drive in, park your car and stroll through the gorgeous grounds of this Botanical Garden. Make sure you go to the lake. It is full of Koi fish and is just a breathtaking view! Not too far from this amazing place is the BEST restaurant on the island...Haleiwa's Joe's-Haiku Gardens.8. Dine at Haleiwa's Joe's Restaurant
There are two locations on Oahu.9. Pay Homage at Pearl Harbor
A visit to Pearl Harbor is a poignant journey through history. Explore the USS Arizona Memorial, the Battleship Missouri, and the Pacific Aviation Museum to gain insight into the events of December 7, 1941. It's a somber yet essential part of any Oahu itinerary. It is free to visit but you may want to pay to see the Battleship Missouri and the Pacific Aviation Museum when you arrive. You will have to pay for parking and $1 per person to reserve your spot on the ferry to take you to the USS Arizona Memorial Site. To reserve your spot on the ferry you will want to do that online in advance. You can also purchase headphones on the property when you get there to use as you walk around. The headphones will give you the history as you explore the museum.10. Discover Waimea Valley and Falls
Waimea Valley is a cultural and botanical treasure trove. Wander through lush gardens, visit ancient Hawaiian sites, and culminate your journey at the picturesque Waimea Falls. Don't forget your swimsuit for a refreshing dip! This was a highlight of our trip. You will have to pay to visit here but it is SO worth every cent! There are several paved trails that will take you to the waterfall at the end. As you embark on the trail, make sure to take pictures of the different species of flowers and plants. I encountered so many I have never seen before in my life. The waterfall is beautiful but very cold. You can rent bins to store you belongings in while you swim. After you are done with this adventure, make sure to go to Waimea Bay across the street. You will find parking. It is a nice beach with a large rock you can cliff dive from if you are feeling adventurous.11. Snorkel at Hanauma Bay
Dive into the vibrant underwater world of Hanauma Bay. Snorkeling here is a surreal experience, with a plethora of colorful marine life and coral formations. It's an aquatic adventure you won't want to miss. Make sure to reserve your spot here as soon as it becomes available online. Tickets sell out very quicky and you HAVE to reserve your spot to enjoy this experience. My name is Chastity Debro. I live in Oklahoma with my husband and two children.
