Bellissima Northern Italy
"Romancing the senses" is an apt description for the experiences showcased on Bellissima Northern Italy... for the landscapes you'll see and the lifestyles you'll sample take you on a love affair with Italy.
It starts with fashion and art in Milan. It continues...
Located about 100 mi/165 km east of Milan and 75 mi/120 km west of Venice, Verona, Italy, is nestled along the banks of the Adige River, a short drive from the Valpolicella wine region. It is the setting for Shakespeare's plays Romeo and Juliet and The Two Gentleman of Verona. A commercial and political center in Roman times, Verona boasts the open-air Arena theater, the city's most important testimony to its past. After Venice, Verona is Veneto's second-most-popular city for tourism, and it also attracts international visitors to its annual trade shows at the Veronafiere fairgrounds.
Many find Verona to be one of the most romantic cities in the world. At every turn, visitors are reminded of its Roman Empire origins and connection to Shakespeare. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Verona also self-identifies as the citta dell'amore—the city of love.
Sights—The Roman Arena, built in the first century; Piazza Bra, Verona's main piazza and shopping area; Ponte Pietra (The Stone Bridge) spanning the Adige River; Juliet's House; Castelvecchio, the medieval castle of the Scaliger dynasty; Piazza delle Erbe, Verona's oldest square, or "forum" during the Roman empire.
Museums—Art exhibits at Palazzo della Gran Guardia; 14th-century frescoes at Museo degli Affreschi "G.B. Cavalcaselle"; classical Italian-style gardens at Giardino Giusti.
Memorable Meals—Risotto all'amarone at Trattoria Al Bersagliere; steaks and fresh house-made pasta at La Griglia; an assortment of prosciutto, cheeses, pasta and vegetarian dishes at Il Banco Proscuitteria; house-made pasta and local wines at La Vecia Mescola.
Late Night—Live music or a DJ at upscale Berfi's Club; live jazz, soul, rock or folk music at Le Cantine de l'Arena pizzeria.
Walks— Classical Roman, Shakespearian and Italian garden-themed walking tours with authorized tour guides.
Especially for Kids—Gardaland, one of Italy's most famous amusement parks.
