The city of Medina, located 200 mi/320 km north of Jeddah, has a population of more than 1 million. Its name means "radiant," and it is the second-holiest city of Islam. Muhammad is buried there. Only Muslims are permitted to visit it.
There are several mosques in Medina, including the green-domed Mosque of the Prophet, it contains Muhammad's tomb; the Qiblatayn Mosque where Muhammad decreed that prayer should be directed toward Mecca, rather than Jerusalem; and the tomb of the Prophet's daughter Fatima, although she's actually buried across the street.
