Beaches Resorts Introduces Planetarium Experience

The Discovery Dome coming soon to Beaches Resorts

Beaches Resorts, the Caribbean’s ultimate getaway for every member of the family, will debut the region’s first resort-based portable planetarium experience on September 25 at Beaches Negril Resort & Spa in Jamaica and Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa.  Discovery Dome is a transportable air-conditioned, full dome theater that surrounds guests with a panoramic interactive experience. Within the Discovery Dome children and families will view  “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure”, a show, that launches this fall and will remain year round as part of the Caribbean Adventures with Sesame Street® which is now celebrating its 11th year at Beaches Resorts.

One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure was created as part of a global partnership between the Adler; Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street; the Beijing Planetarium and the Liberty Science Center.  Major funding for the program provided by National Science Foundation and PNC Foundation with additional support from W.L.S. Spencer Foundation.  The show is a state-of the-art visual learning experience aimed to promote scientific curiosity and foster cross-cultural appreciation.  Guests of all ages are invited into the Discovery Dome to explore the night sky with favorite Sesame Street friends Big Bird, Elmo and their friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu.  For 25 minutes, they are surrounded by the night sky while they learn about the Big Dipper, the North Star, the Sun and the Moon. 

Additionally, as part of exclusive offerings this fall at all three Beaches Resorts is “Exploring the Moon with Elmo,” another new signature activity that is currently available to guests.  A complement to Discovery Dome, this program introduces children to basic astronomy concepts, the phases of the moon and its surface and allows kids to create their own clay moon model as a takeaway of their edutainment experience.

According to Sandals Resorts International CEO Adam Stewart, the Discovery Dome and its science-based programming will also be made available to local school children in Jamaica and Turks and Caicos through a two-country tour sponsored by the Sandals Foundation in early 2024.  “While we are thrilled to offer the first, portable, resort-based planetarium to our guests, the ability to share this experience with kids in the Caribbean who simply don’t have access to the world’s planetariums, is just awesome,” said Stewart.  “We are grateful to our partners at Sesame Workshop, whose mission is to help kids grow smarter, strong, and kinder, for their incredible ability to make learning so much fun and for bringing the wonders of the universe to our guests and to our kids in the Caribbean.”
