While all of the resorts in the Sandals family celebrated Earth Day on Sunday with a variety of programs, activities and local clean-ups, our team works tirelessly each and every day of the year to ensure that the region’s most precious resources are protected.
Since the company’s very start, every resort in the Sandals, Beaches and Grand Pineapple family has always been mandated to operate a rigorous environmental protection program. Last year, Sandals Resorts International combined all of these efforts under one program, called “Sandals Earthguard.” Sandals Earthguard powered by EarthCheck was designed to reduce our company’s environmental footprint and increase the benefits our host communities receive as a result of sustainable tourism.
We strengthened our existing partnership with EarthCheck - the world’s leading environmental management, benchmarking and certification company – in order to bring about this significant initiative. Their outstanding tools & data allows our management team to make meaningful changes to meet the more complex and demanding reporting needs of a new carbon economy.
We’re proud to say that our company’s forward-thinking environmental initiatives have proved to be so successful that they have previously been adopted by governments and other international organizations, and resulted in a long list of industry innovation awards.
Back in 1998, Sandals Negril Beach Resort and Spa become the first All Inclusive Resort to achieve what is now known as EarthCheck Certification. Soon after, the remaining 13 Sandals resorts and four Beaches resorts followed suit and achieved certification. Today, Sandals Negril holds the Platinum level of certification; the highest possible achievement.
