Us Brits love a bit of romance. We're a nation of romantics according to our most recent study. So why are we tarnished with image of the stiff-upper-lipped, cold mannered folk of Europe? With our most recent competition, Sandals is encouraging Brits to #ReclaimRomance and challenge the idea that we are an unromantic nation once and for all!
There’s been a lot of talk recently about how relationships are suffering due to an increasing obsession with mobile phones, with a new word ‘phubbing’ even being created to describe the idea of snubbing someone in favour of a phone! However, Sandals Resorts have conducted some research* to show that romance isn’t dead after all, with 58% of British couples claiming to spend more quality time with their partners than time on their mobiles.
The survey also showed that more than half of respondents had not used their mobile phone for activities (such as updating social media or playing game apps) whilst on a date (56%), with 30% having had a phone-free date within the past week alone.
It’s often said that the secret to a happy relationship is never to go to bed on an argument, and British couples are certainly following this advice! 40% of people questioned said that the last thing they do before going to sleep is kiss or talk to their partner, compared to just 13% who said the last thing they do is check their mobile phone. The survey also showed that it’s not just teenagers who are still in the throes of romance, as 35-44 year olds were the most likely to kiss their partner before going to sleep (32%).
Contrary to recent claims, couples seem far more interested in being connected with each other than with their mobiles, as nearly two thirds of people questioned said that they were more likely to hold their partner’s hand than their mobile phone when walking down the street (64%).
