Overview
Introduction
For sailors and boaters alike, The Dogs, British Virgin Islands, are a popular diving venue located in the Sir Francis Drake Channel off the northwest coast of Virgin Gorda and east of Great Camanoe. The Dogs include the two Seal Dogs islands, George Dog, West Dog and Great Dog. The Dogs are a marine national park and seabird refuge. The islands' name comes from the barking sounds made by a now-extinct Caribbean seal population.
The islands offer great diving, snorkeling and windsurfing. Off the south side of Great Dog, the largest of the Dog islands, Coral Gardens features beautiful coral formations and the fuselage of a commuter plane. Chimney, Joe's Cave and the Cockroach are other popular diving sites.
