Some of the top activities Costa Rica has to offer...
You want to visit Costa Rica! Awesome, we can help get you there. But one of the questions we’ll ask in helping you do so is what you’d like to see and do there. Relax? Explore nature? Seek adventure? All the above and more? Probably. There is just so much available, we’ll need to have a serious discussion on what your priorities are. To help we’ve put together a list of eight of the best activities to do during your visit. After reading let us know what’s on the top of yours!
8 Great Activities Costa Rica Has To Offer
1. Hiking – An activity that likely is top of mind when you think of Costa Rica and there certainly is no shortage of places to do so. Volcanoes, beaches, cloud forests – the choice is yours. Once that’s settled, think about the level of difficulty you’re comfortable with. These two things will help in the best recommendation. Additionally, it is suggested you consider guided hikes. Your expert leader will be able to provide general assistance and a trained eye to spot wildlife.
2. Surfing – Surfers from around the world frequent Costa Rica year-round because of its warm waters and waves. Choose your coast – Pacific or Caribbean, select your level of experience – beginner, intermediate, or advanced. We can even make some recommendations. If you’re in need of a lesson, they’re typically easy to find, even just by stepping foot on some beaches!
3. Snorkeling and Scuba – Wildlife sightings aren’t limited to land. There are 7,000+ marine species that can be found in Costa Rica’s surrounding waters. So, it is no surprise that it is on the top of the list for water activities. If you’re a snorkeler, think about if you’d like to do so by boat or shore. If a diver, we can help recommend dive sites. Just let us know your level of experience.
4. Whitewater Rafting – Costa Rica provides a stunning background for this adventure. There are a few areas that would be recommended if this is something you’d like to do. Beginner or advanced, let us know what intensity of rapids you’re comfortable with, and we can point you in the right direction. If the kiddos are up for the challenge, there are some options that are suitable for them too. It’s a great family activity!
5. Visit Waterfalls – Some of the most picturesque sights in Costa Rica can be found at its numerous waterfalls. After all, there’s something so magical about water cascading over a cliff to the pools below. There are plenty of options to choose from, just keep in mind a few things. Some falls will require a hike to access, entrance fees will vary, and some allow swimming while others do not. Also consider a guided tour if you won’t have access to a rental car during your stay.
6. Zip Lining – If you’ve Googled “excursions in Costa Rica” you’ve likely seen a picture of someone effortlessly flying over green canopy, rivers, and cliffs. It’s a very popular activity that can be found all over the country. You should expect a safety demo and a short hike. Then you’ll glide line by line, each getting a little longer than the one before. If you’re an adrenaline seeker this is a must do! If not, we wouldn’t recommend it. Do not invest money in something if you’re not 100% comfortable with.
7. Bird Watching – It isn’t unusual for people to travel to Costa Rica for this very reason. Some enthusiasts even build a whole itinerary around this activity. There is 900+ species and most often seen will likely be toucans, macaws, and hummingbirds. Because the country is so eco-diverse, make a couple of watching stops. Don’t forget your binoculars and camera!
8. Yoga – Yes, you read that right! Costa Rica is indeed a haven for yoga lovers. You could see or take a class quite literally anywhere – a resort, beach, volcano, or rainforest. If you’re a beginner, give it a try at least once. If you’re a wellness enthusiast and it’s your reason for travel, it belongs on your list. Think wellness retreat, group trip for your studio, location for instructor training or continuing education.
There you have it, some of the best that Costa Rica has to offer! Of course, there’s a ton more that isn’t listed, so if you have any questions let us know. If you’re ready to explore all that Costa Rica has to offer, please feel free to reach out!

Birthday Cruise
We had a wonderful experience using Johnnie Herring at Vincent Vacations to book a cruise for us. She was able to find a cruise leaving from the location that we requested and in the time frame that we needed. Johnnie took care of every detail. Found us a great deal, so we were able to enjoy a balcony room. She stayed in touch with us to be sure we didn't miss any details. I usually book all my own trips. As we had never traveled to London and Ireland before, we knew we needed help with arranging all the specifics. We used Vincent Travels agent, Johnnie Herring. She sent us several hotel options for all of our locations, arranged a rental car for our time in Ireland and helped with booking our one way flights from London to Belfast. She gave us guidance on excursions and arranging train tickets for a day in Oxford. Our hotels were all very nice, we specifically really enjoyed the Rembrandt in London and the Connemara Coast Hotel in Furbo, Ireland. We didn’t run into any challenges during our time away, but it was so nice to know if we needed anything Johnnie would be available to help. She was great to work with and we would recommend her to anyone needing help with travel arrangements. :)
Adventure Awaits: Our Family Journey Through Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands
Embarking on an Adventures by Disney expedition to Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands was a dream come true for our family. Over the course of nine days, we explored breathtaking landscapes, uncovered the secrets of volcanic islands, and immersed ourselves in the incredible wildlife that inspired Charles Darwin. Come along as we share the highlights of this unforgettable journey!
Day 1: Arrival in Quito, Ecuador
¡Bienvenidos a Ecuador!
When we touched down at Mariscal Sucre International Airport, we were immediately greeted by a friendly Adventures by Disney representative holding a bright orange sign. It was such a warm welcome and set the tone for the adventure ahead. From there, we headed to the Wyndham Quito Airport Hotel, which was both cozy and full of Ecuadorian charm.
After checking in, we had the evening to ourselves. Some of us stayed at the hotel to relax, while others ventured out to explore Quito. The Adventure Guides had plenty of great recommendations for experiencing the city’s vibrant culture and delicious cuisine.
Day 2: Off to the Galápagos – Baltra & Mosquera Islet
After a leisurely breakfast, we were off to Baltra Island. The flight itself felt like the beginning of the adventure, as we anticipated what was waiting for us in the Galápagos. Once we arrived, we took a scenic panga boat ride to the Galápagos Legend, which would be our floating home for the next six days.
Mosquera Islet Snorkeling & Hike
Our first stop was Mosquera Islet, where we snorkeled in crystal-clear waters teeming with marine life. It was incredible to swim alongside rays, barracudas, and even sharks! Later, we took a guided hike and saw playful sea lions and exotic birds.
That evening, we enjoyed a welcome reception and dinner onboard. The kids loved the evening activities, which included stargazing and family-friendly games.
Day 3: Santiago Island & Rábida Island
Santiago Island: Egas Port Walk & Swim
After a hearty breakfast, we stepped onto Santiago Island’s black volcanic sands. The kids were fascinated by the fur seals, blue footed boobies, lava lizards, and the majestic Galápagos hawk. After exploring, we cooled off with a refreshing swim before heading back to the ship for lunch.
Rábida Island: Walk & Snorkel
Rábida Island, with its stunning red-sand beach, was one of our favorite stops. We spotted mockingbirds, finches, and the vibrant vermilion flycatcher. Snorkeling here was magical—we swam alongside turtles, sea lions, and a kaleidoscope of colorful fish.
Day 4: Isabela Island
Urbina Bay & Alcedo Volcano
Our hike across the dramatic volcanic terrain at Urbina Bay was like stepping onto another planet. Depending on the season, we were told you could spot land iguanas and giant tortoises—something we were lucky enough to witness! We wrapped up the morning with snorkeling in turquoise waters.
Tagus Cove Adventures
In the afternoon, we followed in Darwin’s footsteps at Tagus Cove. Some of us chose to kayak while others snorkeled, surrounded by penguins, turtles, and flightless cormorants.
Day 5: Fernandina Island & Isabela Island
Espinosa Point Exploration
Fernandina Island is a pristine paradise and home to the world’s largest colony of marine iguanas. It felt like nature at its purest. Snorkeling here, we swam alongside iguanas, penguins, and turtles.

Visiting the Charles Darwin Research Station was both fascinating and inspiring. We learned about the conservation efforts protecting the Galápagos’ unique species. The kids were especially intrigued by the story of Lonesome George, the last Pinta Island tortoise.
Highlands Adventure
Our afternoon in the highlands was unforgettable. We visited Rancho El Manzanillo, where we saw giant tortoises roaming freely. It felt like stepping into a prehistoric scene! We enjoyed a delicious lunch surrounded by lush landscapes and beautiful birdlife.
Day 7: Bartolomé Island & Santiago Island
Bartolomé Island Hike & Snorkel
We started the day hiking Summit Trail for one of the most iconic views in the Galápagos—volcanic cones and Pinnacle Rock. Afterward, we cooled off with a snorkel, where playful penguins and sea lions joined us in the water.
Santiago Island’s Sullivan Bay
The lava fields of Sullivan Bay were a striking reminder of the islands’ volcanic origins. We ended the day snorkeling in this otherworldly setting, marveling at the vibrant underwater life.
Day 8: San Cristóbal Island
Pitt Point & Cerro Brujo
Our last full day was packed with adventure. We took a panga ride along San Cristóbal’s beautiful coastline and hiked to see all three booby species—blue-footed, red-footed, and Nazca boobies. In the afternoon, we relaxed on Cerro Brujo beach, where the kids played in the soft sand while we snorkeled in the turquoise waters.
Farewell Dinner
That evening, we celebrated our incredible journey with a farewell dinner under the stars. Sharing stories and laughter with our fellow travelers was the perfect way to end this magical trip.
Day 9: Goodbye to the Galápagos
After a leisurely breakfast, we said goodbye to the Galápagos Legend and flew back to Quito. As we headed home, we couldn’t stop talking about the memories we’d made—memories that will stay with us forever.
Tips for Future Travelers
Pack light, with quick-dry clothing for island excursions.
Bring water-resistant hiking shoes for the volcanic terrain.
Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat—the Galápagos sun is intense!
A waterproof camera and binoculars are a must for capturing all the incredible wildlife.
This wasn’t just a trip for our family—it was a journey into one of the most unique ecosystems on Earth. From volcanic landscapes to swimming with sea lions and learning about conservation, this adventure left us with memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime.
Hey, fellow travelers and adventure seekers! Today, I'm here to share an exhilarating tale of my recent escapade to the land of fire and ice – Iceland! Brace yourselves for a thrilling journey into the heart of one of nature's most awe-inspiring phenomena: volcanoes. Join me as I recount my extraordinary experience witnessing the raw power of Iceland's majestic volcanoes, particularly the mesmerizing Litli-Hrútur eruption.
Exploring the Land of Fire and Ice: A Family Adventure
In early June this year, my family and I embarked on a journey to Iceland, a country renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, including glaciers, geothermal hot springs, and of course, volcanoes. Our adventure was a perfect blend of icy escapades and fiery encounters.
Embracing the Ice: Glacial Hikes and Underwater Marvels
Our icy adventures took us atop magnificent glaciers, deep into mesmerizing ice caves, and even snorkeling in glacier-fed waters sandwiched between tectonic plates. Picture this: swimming in crystal-clear waters at a bone-chilling 32 degrees, surrounded by the sublime beauty of Iceland's glaciers. And let's not forget the surreal experience of listening to a glacier calve while strolling through the glacial mountain valley. The sheer majesty of these frozen giants left us in awe.
Encountering Fire: Geysers, Lava Fields, and Dormant Volcanoes
On the flip side, our fiery encounters were just as captivating. We immersed ourselves in geothermal hot springs, marveled at the unpredictable dance of active geysers, and explored moss-covered lava fields, a testament to Iceland's volcanic history. One highlight was our hike to the dormant volcanic sites, where recent eruptions had reshaped the landscape. The sight of smoking lava fields, remnants of recent eruptions, was both thrilling and humbling.
The Call of Litli-Hrútur: A Spontaneous Volcanic Adventure
Fast forward seven weeks after our initial trip, news of increased earthquake activity near the Fagradalsfjall eruption sites piqued my interest. On July 10th and 18th, Litli-Hrútur, one of Iceland's volcanoes, roared to life, offering a rare opportunity for spectators to witness its fiery heartbeat.
Without a moment's hesitation, I seized the chance for a spontaneous adventure. Booking last-minute flights, I found myself back in Iceland, driving towards the erupting Litli-Hrútur. A six-mile hike later, I stood before the majestic volcano, witnessing lava bubbling and dancing in its crater. The moment was surreal, made even more unforgettable when a section of the crater collapsed, setting the moss-covered lava ablaze. Nature's raw power was on full display, and I was there to witness it.
A Helicopter Soar and Thermal Serenity: A Perfect Ending
To make the most of my brief Icelandic Volcano Adventure, I took to the skies in a helicopter the next day. Hovering above the crater, I felt the heat and smelled the earthy aroma of the erupting volcano. It was an experience that will forever be etched in my memory.
Finally, I indulged in the therapeutic embrace of the thermal spa waters at Sky Lagoon in Reykjavík. As I relaxed amidst the geothermal bliss, I reflected on the sheer magnificence of nature and the incredible experiences Iceland had offered me.
A Bucket List Journey: What's Next for You?
So, dear readers, where does your wanderlust lead you? Whether it's the icy allure of glaciers, the fiery spectacle of volcanoes, or any other travel dream, I'm here to help you check items off your bucket list. Let's embark on adventures, explore the wonders of the world, and witness nature's raw power together. The world is vast and waiting to be explored – where shall we go next?
Introduction: After three years of anticipation, we finally embarked on our long-awaited journey to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. From the breathtaking landscapes of Banff to the charming city of Victoria and the vibrant streets of Vancouver, our Canadian adventure was filled with natural wonders, historic landmarks, and unforgettable experiences. Join us as we delve into the highlights of our trip and immerse ourselves in the captivating beauty of Western Canada.
Banff National Park: A Nature Lover's Paradise: Flying into Calgary, we quickly rented a car and made our way to the picturesque resort town of Banff, nestled in the heart of Banff National Park. Established in 1885 as Canada's first national park and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Banff boasts awe-inspiring mountain scenery and a myriad of activities for outdoor enthusiasts. From hot springs to snow skiing in winter and hiking, shopping, and wildlife spotting in summer, this charming town has something for everyone. We delighted in exploring the downtown area, treating ourselves to a delicious meal at the renowned Grizzly House Restaurant, and relishing the cozy ambiance while savoring French Onion soup and Sirloin Burgers.
Emerald Waters and Alpine Luxury: Lake Louise and Fairmont Château Lake Louise: Continuing our journey westward, we were greeted by the mesmerizing emerald waters of Lake Louise. The serene beauty of the lake beckoned us to embark on a scenic hike, immersing ourselves in the tranquility of the surroundings. Our accommodation for the night was the prestigious Fairmont Château Lake Louise, an alpine luxury resort that perfectly harmonizes with the breathtaking nature surrounding it. From skating and skiing to hiking and rejuvenating in the lap of luxury, this grand retreat offered a gateway to unforgettable experiences. We marveled at the variety of hiking trails, observed wildlife in their natural habitat (while taking necessary precautions), and relished the enchanting beauty of the Bow Valley. While the more adventurous can undertake the 6.4-mile hike to the Plain of Six Glaciers, we opted for a pleasant and easy 3-mile walk along the lake, culminating in the sight of a small glacier.
Victoria: A Blend of History and Natural Splendor: Leaving the Canadian Rockies behind, we flew to Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, located on Vancouver Island. Victoria's abundant parkland and temperate weather create the perfect environment for stunning gardens and beautiful landscapes. The city's British colonial past is reflected in its Victorian architecture, exemplified by the stately Craigdarroch Castle mansion. We took a moment to admire this architectural gem before checking in at the Fairmont Empress, a historic waterfront hotel known as the 'Castle of the Pacific.' With its classic and contemporary blend, the hotel offered picturesque views of float planes, boats, and migrating whales. Our tour of Victoria took us to Hatley Castle, a magnificent structure, and Butchart Gardens, a paradise boasting 55 acres of vibrant floral displays and water features. We also explored Chinatown, the second oldest in North America, and wandered through the narrow and charming Fan Tan Alley.
Vancouver: A City of History and Vibrant Energy: Our final stop before embarking on an Alaskan cruise was the dynamic city of Vancouver. We boarded a BC Ferry and crossed the Strait of Georgia to reach this cosmopolitan hub. Vancouver's rich history unfolded as we participated in an evening tour that explored the city's lost souls and delved into the stories of Gastown, the original name of the town before its renaming. We marveled at the steam-powered clock and soaked in the city's atmosphere.
