The largest cave in Bosnia and Herzegovina offers a fascinating option to escape the heat of the city for the day. In one of the most biologically diverse cave systems in the world, you’ll explore the tranquil lakes and incredible subterranean life on this exciting and unique day trip.

As you cross the border from Croatia, take in the views of the breathtakingly charming Popovo Polje valley, where this huge cave system lies—extending 3.7 miles (6 km) in length and 82 feet (25 m) in depth. The name vjeternica means “wind cave” because of the cool air blowing out from its entrance, making it an ideal place to cool off in the summer heat.

The cave system, which is now under nomination for UNESCO listing, features ancient cave drawings of bears and leopards estimated to be over 10,000 years old. Walk through the untouched environment and marvel at the many small lakes, and learn about the endemic types of fauna only found in deep underground systems.
