Explore the area around Prambanan as you find some of the finest examples of Hindu and Buddhist architecture in the whole country. Among others, visit the UNESCO-listed Prambanan Temple complex itself before watching a breath-taking dance routine that tells one of the grandest Hindu tales.

Begin at a temple that is lesser-known than others, the 8th century Buddhist offering of Candi Kalasan, interesting as it is believed to be a prototype from the majestic Prambanan Temple that you come to next. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a series of striking temples built in the 9th century to honor the Hindu Holy Trinity; Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.

See the fusion of Buddhist and Hindu influences at further sites, Candi Plaosan and Candi Sewu, before ascending to a plateau and Ratu Boko—a former spiritual retreat. With views over the area this is a prime position from which to watch the sunset.

Back at the Prambanan complex, tuck into a dinner comprising a typical Javanese buffet and wait for the entertainment to begin.
