Discover Suva—Fiji’s lively capital city and one of the largest cosmopolitan hubs in the South Pacific—with a guided day trip to see its markets, landmarks, museums, and parks.

After being picked up from your hotel, ride through fields of coconut palms and sugarcane until you reach Suva. Disembark and set off for an exploration of this vibrant “City of Surprises,” admiring its colonial architecture as you make your way to the stately white Presidential Palace to watch the ceremonial changing of the guard.

From here, head to nearby Albert Park. Flanked by the glamorous, ship-inspired Grand Pacific Hotel, this park was made into a makeshift landing strip to welcome aviator Charles Kingsford Smith after he completed the first transpacific flight from the United States to Australia in 1928.

Wander through the Thurston Botanical Gardens to admire the palms, gingers, lilies, and other island flora. These plants and herbs are some of the natural ingredients used by Pure Fiji, a cosmetics company whose soaps, fragrances, and candles in scents like pineapple and coconut are on offer at their factory and outlet in town.

Check out the 3700-year-old archaeological artifacts on display at the Fiji Museum, where you can delve into Fijian culture and history. Emerge back into modern, bustling Suva at the municipal market. Work up an appetite as you eye the tropical fruits and produce, and then grab lunch at a Fijian food stand before the return trip to your hotel.
