Description:

Grip the handlebars of a rugged mountain bike and learn how to charge down dirt paths, up steep hills, and around challenging obstacles. This all-encompassing introduction to off-road riding teaches you the proper techniques and skills necessary to tackle harsh landscapes on 2 wheels.

Start your day with the basics, identifying the key mechanisms and systems of a modern mountain bike. Move on to find out the ideal way to mount and dismount your bike to minimize accidents and start off on the right pedal. As the lesson progresses, your guide—an experienced local with more than 15 years of experience—shows you how to maintain the correct body position and stance while you master the fundamental shifting, braking, and pedaling techniques necessary to navigate tight turns and bumpy terrain.

Test your abilities in the afternoon, with a ride though 6–8 miles (10–13 km) of sprawling coastal landscapes. Cruise between towering trunks in old-growth forests and along rough paths in grassy meadows as you practice the skills learned earlier in the day. If your bike breaks down, don’t worry. Your session also includes a crash course in mountain bike maintenance, so you’re never left high and dry out on the trail.
