A comfortable van takes you from your San Jose hotel to the charming Poas National Park, home to the 8,885-foot (2,708-m) Poas Volcano. Marvel at the volcano's massive blackened crater—a natural wonder—billowing steam and listen as your guide describes the frequent geyser and lava eruptions.

Next, venture to the renowned Doka Estate, nestled in the fertile slopes of the Poas Volcano. Tour the estate grounds and learn about different coffee plant varieties and the roasting process that has been successful for 3 generations. Before you leave, sample the plantation's 8 unique coffee blends which include smooth, bold, organic, and decaf varieties.

At the last stop, take a moderate hike at La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a lush highland rich in biodiversity. Embark along a paved trail wrapping 1.8 miles (3 km) to the base of the cascading La Paz Waterfall. With a varying altitude of 4,000–5,000 feet (1,200–1,500 m), you may see a diverse range of wildlife like exotic birds, colorful orchids, and the world's largest butterfly observatory.
