Spread out over 1,200 acres (486 ha), the first Balboa Park landmarks were constructed in 1915 for the Panama-California Exposition. Since that time, hundreds of new additions have popped up. After meeting up with your guide for the day and taking a brief lesson on Segway operation, head to the park’s gates to start your exploration.

Cruise along wide paths flanked by Spanish Colonial Revival-style architecture and swaying palm trees. Snap photos of bright flowers blooming in the Japanese Friendship or Desert Gardens and hear stories about Kate Sessions, a botanist and landscape expert who worked tirelessly to preserve and expand the gardens' features in the early 20th century.
