Discover Rome’s dark side with an afternoon tour to some of its most sinister sites— the tunnels of the Catacombs, the street beneath Basilica San Clemente, and the eerie Bone Chapel. After the sun goes down, gig deeper into the little-known history of the Eternal City on a story-filled night tour.

Your tour begins at the Catacombs, a network of subterranean tunnels once used as a burial ground and hiding place for Early Christians, who went underground to escape the wrath of the tyrannical emperor Nero.

Emerge back into the light of day and head to the Basilica San Clemente. Hear the tale of a priest driven mad by the sound of running water who dug into the floor of the church to uncover a first-century Roman aqueduct. Continue on to the grotesque Capuchin Crypt, also known as the Bone Chapel. The exhumed bones of over 4,000 monks adorn the walls and ceilings here in a macabre display of deathly décor, including dangling chandeliers made from vertebrae and skeletons still wearing their habits.

Take a break to grab a drink, a bite to eat, or spend some time strolling the streets as darkness falls, and then meet back up with your guide for a 90-minute guided night tour.
