Learn about the history and development of this ancient city during the Imperial period, from the time of Julius Caesar to the fall of Rome while visiting the Colosseum, Imperial Fora, and the Markets of Trajan.

Begin at the Colosseum—this historical marvel remains ancient Rome’s symbol of the ambitious building programs of various emperors. Continue on to the via dei Fori Imperiali (Imperial Fora), which overlooks the ruins of squares, temples, and other structures built by emperors such as Augustus and Trajan.

Move along to the markets and the monumental column of Trajan. View the Basilica Ulpia, which may be open for entrance depending on the season. Hear about the relationship between the medieval structures and the Imperial buildings before moving on to view the Roman houses at the bottom of the Capitoline Hill. Head to the theater of Marcellus and complete the tour at the Porticus of Octavia.
