Description:

See ferocious Tasmanian devils, watch hopping kangaroos, and check out koalas lounging in eucalyptus trees at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Your afternoon tour of this conservation center is filled with emus and wombats and a visit to the riverside town of Richmond.

Leave from the Brooke Street Pier in Hobart and ride north in a comfortable coach, winding along the River Derwent and the lush, forested hillsides of the Brighton Valley.

Arrive at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can encounter native species including emus, wombats, sugar gliders, and cockatoos. Get up close to Tasmanian devils—at a safe distance, that is!—and watch them tear into a meal. For a more hands-on experience, try feeding kangaroos and wallabies or petting the soft grey fur of a cuddly koala.
