Description:

Head out on a full-day adventure filled with water activities such as high-speed jet boating and slow canoeing along the pristine Dart River Valley, plus a scenic back-country drive to view filming locations from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Leaving Queenstown by bus, you pass by Lake Wakatipu with its magnificent Alpine scenery, and into the Dart River Valley and Mount Aspiring National Park.

Upon arrival at the glacier-fed Dart River, board your awaiting jet boat. Inhale the sharp air as your hour-long ride speeds past ancient beech forests, sheer cliffs and ridges, slowing to inch through walls of rock to reach your Funyak launch site in the heart of the national park.

Hop aboard the Funyak, an inflatable canoe, to leisurely explore the river and hidden side streams. Your guides teach you about the local flora, fauna, and areas of historical interest such as the Pounamu (greenstone) that made the river an important trading route for early Maori.

Next, stop at a forested glade by the water, with spectacular views of Mt Earnslaw, to enjoy a buffet lunch.

After lunch, canoe until you reach Paradise, where rolling farmland meets beech forest and the charming Diamond Lake. Hop into a 4WD for a back-country drive through Dart Valley and listen as your guide points out filming locations from the Lord of the Rings trilogy along the way.

When you reach the rustic town of Glenorchy, board the bus for a take a breaking journey back to Queenstown.
