Description:

From mountains to rivers, this unique day trip introduces you to the sights, traditions, and tastes of Portugal’s Douro River Valley, a UNESCO-listed site. You visit 3 different wine estates, each which specializes in a different type of wine, with an opportunity for tastings and in-depth wine info.

Leave the city behind and head to the rich Douro Valley. Drive through its idyllic hills and admire its natural greenery and steep valleys, with vineyards and verdurous river banks complementing the scenery. Your guide shares the history of wine production in the region, dating back to the third century, when the famous Douro vintage was first produced.

You visit 3 estates, each specializing in a different type of wine, and indulge in at least 2 samples at every location. Start with a stop at Raposeira Cellars, an original cellar dug from blue granite rock that focuses on sparkling wines. Break for a traditional lunch, served with a glass of the local vintage, of course.

Next, you head to Tedo Vineyards, where the championed drink of the region—port—is officially produced. Hear about its production on a guided tour of the grounds, and delight in a sample of this famous beverage. The last destination, Aveleda Vineyards, rests in the demarcated Vinho Verde (“green wine”) region, where you savor some wine that’s paired with locally produced cheese.
