Admire the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, consecrated in 1587, and snap a few photos before you reach the elegant Fontana Maggiore. This monumental fountain was built at the output of the medieval aqueduct in the 13th century to celebrate Perugia's independence.

Your tour ends at the Rocca Paolina, a giant fortress built under the command of Pope Paul III. The construction of this 16th-century edifice required that the noble district that existed here formerly be completely razed to the ground—the citizens of Perugia only waited 3 years before demolishing the Rocca Paolina during an uprising. Today, only the foundations and substructure walls remain, topped by the charming Giardinia Carducci and spectacular viewpoints looking out over the countryside.
