Description:
Absorb 3 centuries of rich history and folklore as you experience the sights and sounds of the world-renowned French Quarter and Jackson Square. Then board the historic Steamboat Natchez for a concert cruise along the Mississippi River.
Follow the path of the oldest, continuously run passenger railway system in the world—despite a short interruption during Hurricane Katrina, the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar. Embrace the beauty of the exclusive Garden District's stately mansions, late-Victorian architecture, and famous homes once owned by kings and queens of Mardi Gras.
Learn about above-ground crypts and mausoleums known as “Cities of the Dead” and hear stories of voodoo and piracy on Bayou St. John, the waterway used by Jean Lafitte and his band of pirates. Then make your way to the fifth-largest park in America, Audubon Park, home to the Besthoff Sculpture Garden and the Morning Call Cafe.
Next, board the authentic Steamboat Natchez. Listen to your captain's narration about one of the world's busiest ports, see inside the steam engine room, and learn how the steam powers the paddlewheel and the pipe organ calliope. As you cruise along the mighty Mississippi, enjoy a steam-calliope concert, a New Orleans' staple, and watch the city drift by back on shore.
Finally, cruise past the Chalmette Battlefield, now a wide, verdant cemetery. This is where Jean Lafitte teamed up with Andrew Jackson to defeat the British in the War of 1812's final major battle.
