Enjoy a delicious breakfast in the home of French impressionist Edgar Degas; then take a tour of the mansion, grounds, and the artist's studio, led by his great-grandniece. As you visit, learn about Degas' fascinating Creole heritage and the impact of his time in New Orleans on his life and work.

Step into the elegant mansion on Esplanade Avenue that Degas called home for 5 months in 1872 and 1873. Located in the vibrant and historic Tremé neighborhood, this restored estate was where Degas painted scenes from his family life, captured images of the American South during the Reconstruction, and gathered inspiration and motivation for his return to the Parisian art world.

Explore the stately home's grounds and rooms, including the artist's actual studio, as you learn about Degas' family history in Louisiana. Though he was born in Paris, his mother was a Creole descendant of the first French and Spanish settlers in the region.

Watch the award-winning documentary Degas in New Orleans, a Creole Sojourn for a closer look at his fascinating past. View prints of the 18 works Degas created during his stay; then set out to explore Esplanade Ridge and Tremé. Many of the buildings and locations referenced in Degas' letters and drawings from the time can still be visited today.
