Description:

The Battle of Franklin is known as “the 5 bloodiest hours of the Civil War.” Hear stories, see bullet and cannon ball holes, and walk the hallowed halls and battlefields that still bear the scars from one of the fiercest Civil War fights.

Your tour takes you to the Carter House, a modest farmhouse that was ground zero for this historic fight between the Union and Confederate armies. The Carter family sought refuge in the basement of their home during the fighting that erupted on their property, as the home was commandeered as the Federal command post. Hear the stories of the soldiers who fought and died in these fields, and walk among the buildings that still stand to this day.

Then, visit in the quaint town of Franklin to shop, eat, and view historic sites on your own. Learn how the residents of this small town emerged from their homes on the morning of December 1, 1864 to find nearly 10,000 casualties.

The final stop on your journey is the Carnton Plantation. The plantation, owned by the McGavocks, was ordered to be a Confederate field hospital by a Southern general during the Civil War. While touring the home, see the floors that are still stained with the blood of men who were treated there. Learn how the McGavocks eventually donated 2 acres of their property as a burial ground for some of the Confederate soldiers killed in the battle.
