Soak up the fascinating history and wonders of Nicaragua as you tour centuries-old streets in Granada, admire Spanish and English colonial architecture, shop in local markets, and take in the awesome natural beauty of the Masaya Volcano’s steaming crater.

After being picked up from your hotel, cross the border into Nicaragua. Pass by the banks of Lake Nicaragua for a view of the verdant, volcanic Islets of Granada before disembarking in the colonial city of Granada. Set out to explore the city's charmingly restored adobe architecture and learn about its storied past. The city was sacked by pirates 3 times and even burned during the civil war of the 1850s.

Enjoy a Nicaraguan lunch in town; then make your way out to the Masaya Volcano National Park. Peer over the edge of the active Santiago Crater, gaze out at the ragged fields of black lava, and learn about past eruptions at the informative visitor center.

Finally, scope out the colorful, handmade wares on offer at the Masaya Indian arts and crafts market—the Mercado de Artesanias—inside an old traditional market building from the 1900s; it's well known for its diverse assortment of Nicaraguan goods. Pick up souvenirs ranging from embroidered blouses and engraved pottery to vibrantly colored hammocks and woven baskets before your trip back over the border.
