Description:

Unravel thousands of years of human and natural history as you trek through Nerja and venture into its caves. With the help of your expert guide—a local passionate about the heritage of the region—explore the underground marvels of the caverns, and join a hands-on workshop on primitive tools.

Leave Malaga behind and begin your day of exploration. Listen as your guide shares some information about the activities to come and the history of the area you are heading to—Nerja. Nerja’s history goes back to Paleolithic times, and it boasts both ancient Roman and Arabic heritage, visible in its architecture and monuments.

Stretch your legs as you begin a leisurely trek across the karst landscape, where a terrain of soluble rock has dissolved over time to form fascinating features like sinkholes and underground waterways. Your guide points out particular points of interest and shares insightful information about the region’s intriguing geology. Next, venture inside the wonderful cave, exploreed in 1959 by a group of friends, which stretches beneath the earth’s surface for over 3 miles (5 km).

Explore the main caverns to see amazing rock formations and Neanderthals cave art. Next, take part in a hands-on workshop to learn how early humans used rocks as tools, weapons, and to make fire. After your underground adventure, enjoy a meal to recharge before returning to Malaga.
