When the sun sinks down, Lecce seems to glow from within—the ornate buildings of the city center were carved painstakingly from the region's cream-hued limestone, and the city softens around the edges as the night lights come up. At St. Oronzo Square, in the heart of the old town, admire the half-buried Roman amphitheater, which archaeologists believe would have held up to 25,000 spectators during the town's Roman heyday.
