Description:
Experience hundreds of miles of untouched wilderness from the air and enjoy a remote landing in a botanical preserve without public roads. See acres of careening canyon, protected plants endemic to the island, and maybe even a rainbow or two in the mist of cascading waterfalls.
Board a state-of-the-art helicopter and take off from Lihue Airport. Soar over the Hoary Head Mountain Range and into Hanapepe Valley, where you circle the famous Manawaipuna Waterfall and then head to the Waimea and Olokele canyons, making your descent at the Robinson Ranch.
On this gorgeous preserve, you can see sights that are typically off limits to the general public. The ranch itself overlooks the Olokele Canyon, which extends from Waimea all the way to the Mt. Waialeale Crater. This extensive wildlife preserve is as charming, vast, and primeval as an image from Jurassic Park—it was even the setting for several scenes in the film.
From your pilot hear a little history of the Robinson family, who've been stewards of the Hawaiian way of life and Niihau since its purchase by Elizabeth Sinclair in 1864. This remote-landing eco-tour is the only tour authorized to land within these protected grounds. If you're lucky, the conservationist Keith Robinson himself may even be on site to discuss the ecological future of the island.
