Discover Nepal's hidden wonders on a day trip to a little-known Buddhist monastery within Shivapuri National Park. Along the way, with an expert guide by your side, tiptoe past an iconic sleeping Hindu idol, trek across verdant forests, and soak up views of the charming Kathmandu Valley.

Greet your local guide and hop on a bus headed for Budhanilkantha, a quaint Nepalese village famous for housing the sleeping Vishnu, the Hindu God of Preservation. From the vantage point of the outer pond, admire the stunning black basalt deity—the largest stone carving in all of Nepal—as she floats peacefully on top of the calm water, and listen to the stories and myths surrounding her mysterious origins.

From here, hike across lush green farmland to Shivapuri National Park. Wander through dense woods until you arrive at Nangi Gompa—an ornate hilltop monastery nestled in the heart of the forest. Marvel at the spectacular Kathmandu Valley spread out beneath you, and watch the plethora of native birds soaring overhead.

Continue on and descend to the gorgeous waterfalls of Sundarijal, before following the city's water pipeline down to a bazaar and hopping on another bus back to Kathmandu.
