Description:

Immerse yourself in the rivers, traditions, and scenery of northern Australia with a 6-day tour of the Top End. From ancient Aboriginal rock art to grand waterfalls and jumping crocodiles, you can get an up-close look at the splendor of the tropical wilderness.

Day 1:
Get settled in at your hotel, and then have the rest of the day free to explore the city of Darwin.

Day 2:
Cross the Adelaide River and Marrakai Plains to admire the native wildlife. Stop at Burrunggui to view ancient Aboriginal rock art, and then take a cruise after lunch to see the colorful birds and saltwater crocodiles on the famous Yellow Water Billabong.

Visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre to see informative displays depicting the traditions of the local Aboriginal people before you return to Darwin. You can also buy an optional 50-minute scenic flight over Kakadu.

Day 3:
In the morning, stop at Ubirr to see some of the area's oldest surviving rock art and join an Aboriginal guide to learn about the cultural context of the territory on a cruise up the East Alligator River. With special permission from the local custodians, you can disembark for a short walk into Arnhem Land, see a display of traditional hunting and gathering, and visit the Bowali Visitor Centre before your return to Darwin.

Day 4:
Travel south past former World War II airstrips on your way to the Adelaide River. Stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, dedicated to those killed in the air raids on Darwin during the 1940s, before a visit to Edith Falls and, weather permitting, a refreshing swim in the waterhole below.

After a visit to the Nitimiluk National Park Information Centre, enjoy lunch and board a 2-hour cruise through Katherine Gorge. Here, you can see freshwater crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks of the river as you pass between the sheer rock walls. Next, get a brief tour of the township of Katherine and travel past Pine Creek, a historic gold mining town, on your way back to Darwin.

Day 5:
Follow the Stuart Highway to Litchfield National Park, where you can take a scenic walk through the bush and monsoon vine forest. You can swim in the plunge pool at the base of Florence Falls, visit Tolmer Falls for a magnificent view of the cascading water, and go swimming again at Wangi Falls. Stop for a picnic lunch and admire the area's high termite mounds before your return to Darwin.

Day 6:
Your tour concludes with a transfer back to Darwin International Airport.
