Description:

This all-encompassing private tour gives you insight into the remarkable diversity of the region surrounding Yogyakarta. Visit 2 spectacular UNESCO-listed temples, engage with traditional village life, and admire the natural beauty and volcanic force of Mount Merapi.

After an early start, enjoy the sight of sunrise at Borobudur Temple, your first UNESCO World Heritage Site of the day. Taking 3 generations to build and comprised of a series of volcanic rocks and stones, this glorious site is best viewed in the pale hues of early morning light.

Following breakfast, take a ride on an andong (Javanese horse and cart) to nearby villages. At 2 villages, Tuksongo and Karang, witness age-old methods of glass-noodle and tofu production and see how ancient techniques are still implemented today.

Leaving your andong behind, head to the forested trails around Mount Merapi, and from the excellent vantage point of Pronojiwo Hill, admire views of one of the world's most active volcanoes. After lunch, the royal displays and cultural exhibits of Ullen Sentalu Museum provide you with insight into the world of ancient royal kingdoms.

The second UNESCO-listed site of your day, the Prambanan Temple, contains shrines to the Hindu holy trinity. Your guide explains its symbolic importance before you complete your day with awe-inspiring views of the sun setting over the archaeological site of Ratu Boko.
