Description:
Just a 90-minute drive from Sydney's urban bustle, verdant vineyards sprawl over the lush acreage of the Hunter Valley. Spend 2 days tasting wines from down under at long-standing estates, gain insight into Australian vinification methods, and explore the village at Hunter Valley Gardens.
Day 1
Cross under the iconic arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and make your way toward wine country.
Your first stop is at Hope Estate, where regional varietals like Shiraz, Semillon,and Chardonnay truly shine. Learn about the winemaking process as you tour the cellars, and then pull up a chair in the tasting room. Swirl, sip, and savor as you are guided through a sampling of fruit-driven reds and Old World blends from the famed Virgin Hills growing area.
At the Hunter Valley Resort, gain more insight into the methods and technologies used in Western Australian winemaking. Enjoy lunch—complete with wine pairings, of course—and then stop by the Hunter Valley Resort before your final tasting at McGuigan Wines, whose winemaking heritage dates back to the 1880s.
Day 2
The second day is yours to enjoy at your leisure. Arrange more winery tours, book a tee time at a golf course, or shop around the charming village at Hunter Valley Gardens to pick up wine-attentive snacks like local cheeses and chocolates. You can also explore the Hunter Valley Gardens themselves, wandering among the fragrant blooms of the Rose Garden, Italian Grotto, and Indian Mosaic Garden before your early evening return to Sydney.
