Description:

Get an up-close look at the volcano as you ride through lush rainforest and by lava frozen in time on your 21-speed mountain bike. After biking through Volcanoes National Park and walking through a lava tube, journey by van to explore rugged coastline and black-sand beaches.

Your cycling adventure—mostly level terrain with a few small uphill and downhill sections—takes place around the rim of the Kilauea Volcano and along the Chain of Craters Road. Hike through the rainforest to the impressive Thurston Lava Tube and see the heart of the volcano's eruptions at Halema'uma'u Crater. During your ride stop at the Jaggar Museum, home of many seismographs which monitor every twitch of the earth.

After biking in Volcanoes National Park, journey to the Puna area by van. Travel the “Red Road” to admire the scenery as you weave through the forest and marvel at the jagged cliffs overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Pacific before walking out to the black-sand beach at Kaimu, forever changed by lava flows in the early 1990s.

Know before you book: Children 11 and younger are not allowed., Children 17 and younger must be accompanied by a paying adult., You must be at least 54 inches (137 cm) tall., If you are pregnant, you may not take part., Natural sulfur gases may affect those with respiratory problems., The tour itinerary is subject to change based on volcanic activity., You must be able to bike 8 miles (12.9 km) on mostly level terrain and small uphill sections., Pickup is between 7 AM and 8:55 AM. You will receive confirmation of your exact pick-up time once your booking is received.
