Description:

Take a hike with a National Park Service-certified guide on this day trip. Walk across a still-steaming crater floor and see the Thurston Lava Tube on this specialized tour designed for adventurous guests looking to get off the beaten path.

Your guide picks you up and drives you through the “saddle” between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes along Saddle Road. Make a quick stop in Hilo for provisions before heading to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Preserve. Stop at the Kilauea Visitor’s Center, enjoy a picnic-style lunch, and visit the Jaggar Museum.

Then, make your way to the renowned Thurston Lava Tube. Hike down through the lush rainforest to the Kilauea Iki crater and venture across the still-steaming crater floor. This 4-mile (6.4-m) hike culminates in a walk through the cave-like Thurston Lava Tube.

Next, visit the famous Volcano House, a landmark that inspired the likes of Mark Twain and Jack London. Enjoy a delicious dinner with a window view of the Kilauea Volcano erupting in the distance. End your adventure with a stop at the Halemaumau Crater to view the glow up close before returning to your hotel.
