Description:
Set out for a rip-roaring river adventure, speeding along the charming Sigatoka in a jet boat. Cruise upstream as your guide shares stories from the region's past, and disembark in a local village. Partake in a traditional kava ceremony, and then join the Fijian villagers in a delicious feast.
This award-winning tour begins in the lush and fertile Sigatoka Valley, nicknamed “The Salad Bowl” for its abundance of farms and market gardens. Your guide shares insight into the area's history as you drive toward the launch site on the banks of the Sigatoka River. After a safety briefing, climb aboard a bright red, custom-built jet boat and take off, motoring inland past verdant fields and rolling, forested hills.
Ease into shore and jump off the boat. A kaiviti guide welcomes you and leads you into a traditional Fijian village. Take a seat in the chief's bure (house) for a sevusevu (offering) ceremony. Listen to the formal chants and watch as dried roots are mixed with water to make kava. Known for its calming, take a breaking effects, kava is Fiji's national drink, and sharing a cup is an important welcoming ritual. After the ceremony, the locals greet you with a attentive “Bula!” and take you on a tour of the village.
At lunchtime, sit down to a delicious, island-style feast featuring authentic Fijian cuisine and fruits and produce grown nearby. Your meal is followed by music, dancing, and the farewell song Isa Lei as the villagers bid you goodbye. The fun's not over yet, though, as your return cruise to Sigatoka is filled with high-speed spins, twists, and maneuvers in the jet boat to bring your day to a thrilling close.
