Description:

Discover some of South Patagonia’s most spectacular sights by venturing to Lake Viedma and the Lake of the Desert area. See the impressive glaciers, scenic Mount Fitz Roy, and visit the El Chaltén village, known as the capital of trekking.

After you’re picked up from your hotel, ride down the iconic Route 40, leaving El Calafate behind and heading along the shores of the Lago Argentino toward the historic La Leona Roadhouse & Country Lodge. Make a brief stop to enjoy some freshly brewed coffee and cakes, and then continue to Viedma Lake, where you can take in sweeping views of craggy, blue-white glaciers, as well as majestic Mount Fitz Roy.

Arriving at the small El Chaltén village, pay a visit to the Interpretation Center, before heading on a self-guided hike of the Las Vueltas River area, reached on a 4x4 truck. Known as a preferred route of the condors, you might even spot some of these vultures flying above you.

Make your way to the river’s small waterfall, before approaching the Lake of the Desert, surrounded by a lush forest, streams, and glaciers. Optionally, you can choose to trek up to the Huemul Lagoon and the nearby glacier, located on the slopes of Mount Vespignani.
