Description:

The USS Kittiwake lies just off the popular Seven Mile Beach, in water so clear you can see it from the surface. Teeming with marine life, this sunken ship turned artificial reef is a popular attraction for divers.

Measuring at about 251 feet (76 m) in length, the sunken submarine is Grand Cayman’s most famous shipwreck. During its 49 years in service, the USS Kittiwake was home to many US Navy soldiers. After being cleared of all military equipment, the submarine was sunk in 2011 to become a protected artificial reef.
