Description:

Explore museums, art centers, sprawling botanic gardens, and more on this comprehensive sightseeing tour of Christchurch. Starting in the heart of the city, visit famous landmarks before embarking on a loop of the surrounding countryside, stopping at panoramic vistas and quaint port towns.

Climb aboard your tour bus and cross over the Avon River at the Bridge of Remembrance, whose stone archway serves as a World War I memorial. Soon, you arrive at the Christchurch Arts Centre where you can gaze at the stunning work of local and international artists.

Across the street, spend some time investigating an expansive Maori exhibit or the largest collection of artifacts from early Antarctic explorations at the Christchurch Museum. Next door, fill your nose with the scent of exotic flowers as you wander over 50 acres (20 ha) of flora at the Botanic Gardens. Before leaving the city-proper, pop in to the pop-up container mall where you can visit shops and cafes housed inside repurposed, retrofitted shipping containers.

With your shopping done, head out of town to the historic homestead of Mona Vale. Continuing south, climb into the Port Hills and take a break at Sign of the Takahe where you’re rewarded with expansive views of the Southern Alps and the green patchwork of farms that make up the Canterbury Plains.

Finish your tour after a drive through the port town of Lyttelton, known as the “Gateway to Canterbury”. From here, your bus winds around the coast and back to Christchurch.
