Description:
Tour the ruins of the ancient city of Coba—once the largest Mayan settlement in the Yucatán. Experience a revitalizing swim in a cenote, eat local specialties, and see what life is like in a small Mayan village.
Follow your guide along shaded paths to see the 6,500 ruins hidden by more than 500 years of jungle growth at Coba. Arrive at Nohoch Mul and climb the tallest Mayan pyramid in the northern Yucatán. You are escorted by certified local guides of Coba, all of whom are of Mayan decent and native to the area.
The guides offer firsthand insight into Mayan history, tradition, and way of life. Learn about many culturally significant sites, including pyramids, temples, roads, and watchtowers, while exotic birds sing in the background.
Next, stop for a revitalizing swim at the stunning and cavernous Cho-Ha cenote, a natural, fresh-water-filled sinkhole. Then enjoy lunch at a family-run restaurant on the shores of Lake Coba. Savor tasty, traditional Yucatecan dishes, like poc chuc or pork pibil, served with homemade corn tortillas. Keep your camera ready as you may spy crocodiles swimming in the lake.
Finally, visit a honey co-op distribution center in a small Mayan village. Here they produce and sell various products made from organic Yucatecan honey. See how people live in this rural area and visit a handicraft store run by a nice Mayan family before heading back to your hotel.
