Head out of Barcelona and into the Catalan countryside. Sit back and admire the landscape change as you journey farther into the mountains to the El Penedès region. Visit a local winery here. Walk along the evergreen fields and listen as your expert guide explains the wine- and cava-making process. Learn all about this high-quality sparkling wine and take part in a tasting session.

Next, you have the opportunity to experience a local festival at a nearby village (the locale visited depends on the season). Immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere, mingling with the locals and parading in the streets toward the place where the castells are built. These human towers can be up to 10 people high, with more than 100 performers involved.

These towers are a living tradition that's been listed as an Intangible World Heritage by UNESCO. See the base of the tower begin to consolidate and a brave anxaneta, a child of no more than 6, crown the tower.
