Today, you will visit Rio's two signature landmarks. After a scenic drive along Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, you will arrive at the bottom of Corcovado Mountain where you will board a train for a 2.5 mile journey up the mountain to the upper station. From this point, an escalator will take you to the summit where the magnificent granite statue of Christ the Redeemer overlooks Rio. When it is time to leave, you will return the same way. There will be a stop for lunch before continuing to the other famous landmark, Sugar Loaf Mountain. Over a million tourists a year visit the world famous Pao de Azucar, or Sugar Loaf Mountain, which has become an iconic symbol of the city. Rising up from a small peninsula at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined sugar loaf. The tour is done in two steps by panoramic cable-cars. The first cable-car takes passengers to the top of Urca Hill, which rises 558 ft. above sea level and offers spectacular views of the entire bay and its islands. From Urca Hill, passengers continue in a second cable-car to the top which rises 887 ft. and offers a 360-degree view of the entire city including Botafogo and Copacabana Beaches, the Corcovado and downtown Rio. After your tour of Sugar Loaf, continue to downtown Rio to see some of the historical sites such as the Cathedral and the Municipal Theatre.
