On the sands of Brava Beach in Punta del Este, a giant hand made of stone emerges from the sand. “La Mano,” as the sculpture created by Chilean artist Mario Irrazábal is titled, has become a symbol of the resort town, arguably Uruguay’s most famous destination.

If the iconic sculpture inspired the name of our cocktail, the South American nation’s iconic drink – yerba mate – inspired its flavor. This traditional tea, also popular in neighboring Argentina and southern Brazil, is infused with El Jimador tequila for a delicious herbal tea cocktail. Green Chartreuse, a historic French liqueur with a very distinctive spicy and herbal flavor, rounds out this creative margarita recipe.

Thus, the Hand is a margarita variation with herbaceous undertones by way of France, Mexico and, of course, Uruguay. Salud!
